Mosaic Workshops

Hann-Made Studio offer students a wonderfully unique experience in MOSAICS with a wide range of classes for all abilities from beginners to advance. For over 20 years, Cheryl Hann-Woodlock has worked with a variety of mediums to create unique works of MOSAIC ART including: sculptures, huge wall installations, commissions , wall hangings and has travelled extensively teaching. Cheryl enjoys the challenge of design, using colour, texture, variety of mediums including her own hand made porcelain tiles, incorporating these into exciting artworks. Students will develop technical skill and artistic confidence, whilst receiving encouragement in all aspects of their individual projects.

  • Materials and tools are provided unless specified.
  • Lunch and refreshments are provided in the cost of the course.

 

BOOKINGS for GROUPS are available for 4 or more students where you may choose the type of workshop your group would like to do.

Mosaic: Round Mirror
Level: Beginner
Duration: 1 Day
Cost: $180

Students will create a lovely bejewelled mirror using glass & mirror.  The studio offers a vast colour selection for students to choose from.

Skills Learnt:
  • Scoring glass, cutting glass, use of glass nippers, safety procedures when using tools, types of adhesives, grouting and colouring grout.
Mosaic: Polymer Photo Frame
Level: Beginner
Duration: 1 Day
Cost: $180

Create your own tiles for a totally unique mosaic artwork. Students will learn to make decorative tiles with polymer clay and incorporate it into a beautiful photo frame.  This is a great class to get creative using a wide range of tools and materials.

Skills Learnt:
  • Scoring glass, cutting glass, use of glass nippers, safety procedures when using tools, types of adhesives, grouting and colouring grout.
  • Clay: preparation of clay, colouring, use of moulds/stamps/texture plates.
Mosaic: Flower Making
Level: Beginner
Duration: 1 Day
Cost: $150

Create your own flowers, leaves and fauna, to make your next mosaic project unique. Learn how to make a variety of flowers & leaves using a variety of clays and materials. Students will be given bisque flowers to glaze and decorate in the class.  The made pieces on the day will be fired ready to collect approximately 2 weeks after the workshop.

Skills Learnt:
  • Polymer: preparation of polymer clay. Colouring clay. Baking clay.
  • Clay: preparation of clay, underglazing & glazing techniques.
  • Firing: Students will be given information about the procedures of firing artwork.
Mosaic: Patterned Paver – The Simple Way
Level: Beginner
Duration: 1 Day
Cost: $180

Learn how to mosaic paver for the garden using mesh and broken tiles.

NOTE: Students may not be able to grout due to time constraints but shall be given a grout pack to take home.

Skills Learnt:
  • Preparation of tile & mesh in readiness for design and laying of tiles.
  • Designing a simple pattern for mosaic application.
  • SAFE cutting and placing of ceramic tiles using nippers and hammers.
  • Types of suitable adhesives.
  • Grouting techniques.
Mosaic: Jewelled Mirror
Level: Beginner
Duration: 2 Days
Cost: $350

Make a beautiful glass mosaic mirror to adorn your house.  This class offers students lots of opportunity to explore design and pattern making whilst learning the skills of cutting and laying of glass.

Skills Learnt:
  • Scoring and cutting glass with a variety of tools
  • Preparation of pattern making and how to apply this to your mirror.
  • The types of adhesive used and how to colour and mix.
  • How to install a hanging system onto your artwork.
Mosaic: Table
Level: Beginner
Duration: 2 Days

A mosaic table that is a little different!!! Students will be incorporating hand-made tiles by Cheryl Hann-Woodlock with commercial tiles to create a unique work of art.

NOTE: students may not be able to grout work at the studio due to time constraints but will be given a pack to take home to complete.

  • How to measure, score and cut ceramic tiles.
  • How to adhere tiles to the base.
  • How to make your own ceramic tiles.
  • How to use a variety of tools to nip and cut tiles.
Mosaic: Fish Mural
Level: Beginner
Duration: 2 Days

A mosaic table that is a little different!!! Students will be incorporating hand-made FISH tiles by Cheryl Hann-Woodlock with commercial tiles to create a unique work of art.

NOTE: students may not be able to grout work at the studio due to time constraints but will be given a pack to take home to complete.

  • How to measure, score and cut ceramic tiles.
  • How to adhere tiles to the base.
  • How to make your own ceramic tiles.
  • How to use a variety of tools to nip and cut tiles.
Mosaic: Topiray Tree Mural
Level: Beginner
Duration: 2 Days
Cost: $450

A mosaic table that is a little different!!! Students will be incorporating hand-made LEAF and FAUNA tiles by Cheryl Hann-Woodlock with commercial tiles to create a unique work of art.

NOTE: students may not be able to grout work at the studio due to time constraints but will be given a pack to take home to complete.

  • How to measure, score and cut ceramic tiles.
  • How to adhere tiles to a base.
  • How to make your own ceramic tiles.
  • How to use a variety of tools to nip and cut tiles.
  • Grouting techniques.
  • How to attach a hanging system to the mural.
Mosaic: Keystone To My Heart
Level: Intermediate
Duration: 2 Days
Cost: $350

Create a 3-dimensional heart whilst learning the art of creating keystone pattern making. Over 2 days, students will prepare and embellish a 3D form.  They will also learn how to create circle pattern in mosaic “keystone” pattern following tests samples made during the course of the 2 days.

Skills Learnt:
  • Which type of adhesive to use for 3 dimensional applications.
  • Preparation of adhesive.
  • Making test samples of circular patterns for references.
  • How to attach a hanging system to the mural.
